BIM(4D) Overview
What is BIM(4D)?

BIM is an industry acronym for Building Information Modeling. Based on MEP drawing technologies that use 3D modeling and automated functions to increase efficiency and accuracy, BIM is the coordination process that uses these individual 3D trade, architectural, and structural drawings to build one complete model for all of the mechanical systems for the project. The software programs utilized in BIM allows all of the trades to coordinate on-line through a process of automated collision checking and reporting until all trades are fully coordinated. Some refer to this process as simply 4D. At that time, a sign off by each trade assures installation locations that match the coordinated locations agreed to by all trades after participating in the BIM coordination processes. The video below provides an overview of how the BIM process works and the benefits that may result from BIM.
