Division 15 - Plumbing Trade As Coordinator
How It Works

Coordination between the trades is all about maximizing the efficiency of the installation process by identifying potential conflicts and collisions between the trades prior to each trade fabricating and/or installing that trade on the job site. There is a hierarchy of sorts involved in coordination that helps to determine which trade will accommodate another trade when a conflict is detected and which trade will be scheduled to install before another. When the HVAC contractor hires JPK to develop shop drawings, but is also assigned the job of coordinating the other trades with their HVAC shop drawings, JPK offers this additional service that further assists the HVAC contractor in the coordination process as follows:
  1. Serving as a central agent representing the HVAC contractor's interest by collecting and assembling all shop drawings from each trade;
  2. Providing a color conversion process for the HVAC contractor that allows each trade drawing to be overlaid on top of the HVAC backgrounds resulting from the HVAC shop drawings developed for the HVAC contractor by JPK;
  3. Converting all drawings to the same scale as the HVAC shop drawings for uniformity of the review process and comparison of one trade to another;
  4. Deleting all HVAC and other trade shop drawing information that is not relevant to the coordination process;
  5. Identifying potential conflicts between the trades and/or with the structure of the building;
  6. Assigning each trade the role of resolving the conflict(s) based on the most logical solution as a recommendation by JPK;
  7. Making any HVAC shop drawing changes that will further the coordination process when changing HVAC is the most logical solution to resolve a particular conflict;
  8. Continuing with the coordination process with each trade until all known conflicts have been resolved;
  9. Providing PDF and/or CAD files for the production of a color coordination drawing for use in a pre-planned coordination meeting held by the GC for the purpose of having each trade sign off on the agreed location of that trade for the install process.
